August 2016 - PARISH COUNCIL BOUNDARY CHANGES

A legal process to determine potential boundary changes and governance arrangements in an area of rural South Derbyshire has begun.

A Community Governance Review has been launched following a joint request from Barrow upon Trent Parish Council and Stenson Fields Parish Council to change their parish boundaries.

The move would see Barrow divest around 153.5 acres of land in the north-west area, with Stenson Fields to incorporate this into its area.

Stenson Fields would also like to incorporate around 197 acres of land to its south-west, which currently sits in the unparished area of Twyford and Stenson:

Following a meeting of South Derbyshire District Council on Thursday 30 June 2016, a consultation period is now open and will end on 4 September 2016. Anyone wishing to have their say or raise any further queries should email: cgovreview@south-derbys.gov.uk

Your message should just say that you “support the proposed change to the Stenson Fields boundary” (if you do!). Each individual e-mail or letter received will count towards the final decision by SDDC.

If you prefer to write, the address is: South Derbyshire District Council, Legal and Democratic Services Section, Community Governance Review, Democratic Services, Civic Offices, Swadlincote, Derbyshire. DE11 0AH

March 2016 - Speedwatch

The Parish Council is concerned about the problem of motorists travelling at speed around the parish.  Efforts are being made to try to find a solution to the problem, including working with the police.  One option available is for the community to engage in a scheme called SPEEDWATCH.

This is a community led scheme, whereby a minimum of 6 volunteers undertake a short training course with the police in the operating of a speed gun.  The volunteers work together over a short period of time to monitor and record details of vehicles travelling at speed.  These details are passed to the police who issue letters to the vehicle owners, informing that the vehicles has been noted travelling at speed.

Volunteers do not have any legal rights and there is no prosecution at the end of the process, but the evidence gathered will be useful to assist in getting further action to be taken in relation to this problem.

A plea is being made for volunteers to come forward.  Any interested persons should contact the Parish Council
